Joseph is currently a Master of Music student at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he has been a choral scholar in the Choir of Royal Holloway since September 2021. He was also the 2023/24 Tenor Choral Scholar at St. Bartholomew the Great in West Smithfield.
Having graduated in BA Modern Languages (German and Italian) from Royal Holloway in July 2023, Joseph decided to begin his training in professional singing by starting a postgraduate degree in music, also at Royal Holloway, in September 2023, utilising the foreign language skills he gained as an undergraduate in his training as a singer. Joseph has been studying singing with Stuart MacIntyre since 2018.
Growing up in Canterbury, Joseph became a founder member of the Canterbury Choral Society Youth Choir, led by Richard Cooke, where he developed his love of choral music. Joseph was heavily involved in the life of the Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys music department and attended the Rodolfus Choral Courses over multiple years which developed his skills singing in larger choirs and in smaller vocal ensembles.
Some memorable experiences at Royal Holloway are singing with the Britten Sinfonia and Britten Sinfonia Voices in 2019 for Thomas Adès’ performances of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; recording Flemish composer Flor Peeters’ music at Buckfast Abbey; and recording the new Ola Gjeilo DREAMWEAVER album with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Highlights as a soloist include Messiah and Bach’s St John Passion at St George’s, Bristol; Five Mystical Songs; and featuring in the recording of Paul Mealor’s ‘A Welsh Prayer’ on Decca’s HM Queen Elizabeth II – The Commemorative Album.
