Tenor Joseph W G Morris is currently pursuing an MA in Music Performance (Vocal Performance) at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana in Lugano, where he studies with Robert Murray. For the 2026/27 academic year, he is the recipient of a full tuition-fee scholarship from Stiftung S. & B. Salzmann.

In July 2026, Joseph made his role debut as Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni with the OperUs Opera Studio at the Ridotto del Teatro Verdi, Trieste, conducted by Massimo Merone and directed by Ilaria Zanetti. His work on the role began at the 2025 Spoleto Vocal Arts Workshop, where he performed ‘Come mai creder deggio’ and ‘Dalla sua pace’ under the direction of Patrice Caurier and Moshe Leiser. In 2026, at the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana, he performed the scene beginning ‘Don Ottavio, son morta!’ and concluding with ‘Dalla sua pace’, directed by Antonella Agati. His earlier operatic experience includes Alfredo in ‘Libiamo ne’ lieti calici’ from Verdi’s La traviata with Raven Opera Company in 2023, and Acis in ‘The Flocks Shall Leave the Mountains’ from Handel’s Acis and Galatea with the company in 2022.

Born in Canterbury, Joseph holds a BA in Modern Languages (German and Italian) from Royal Holloway, University of London, bringing degree-level study of two central languages of the operatic repertoire to his approach to text, diction and interpretation. His linguistic and musical training developed in parallel from 2018, when he began both his Modern Languages degree and his vocal studies with Stuart MacIntyre. In 2021, whilst completing his undergraduate studies, he became a Choral Scholar in the Choir of Royal Holloway, remaining with the Choir until 2024. He subsequently completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Music with Distinction at Royal Holloway.

With the Choir of Royal Holloway, Joseph performed, toured and recorded extensively. His discography includes the fourth movement of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony on Thomas Adès and Britten Sinfonia’s live Barbican recording Beethoven: Symphonies Nos. 7, 8 & 9 – Barry: The Eternal Recurrence for Signum Classics; Ola Gjeilo’s DREAMWEAVER with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; and recordings of works by Flor Peeters, Dan Locklair, Cecilia McDowall and Eleanor Daley. He also appears as a duet soloist with soprano Isabelle Davis in Paul Mealor’s ‘A Welsh Prayer’, released by Decca on HM Queen Elizabeth II – The Commemorative Album.

His solo concert repertoire includes Handel’s Messiah, Bach’s St John Passion, Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace and Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light: A Requiem. He was also the 2023/24 Tenor Choral Scholar at St Bartholomew the Great, West Smithfield.
